Due to sound check restriction the door time indicates the earliest opportunity we can give access to the venue. Live music will start 20-30 minutes after the door open time.
"To say that I See Hawks in L.A. traipse down a going-their-own-way path through
that old folky Americana and classic California country rock thing, doesn’t quite
begin to describe the sheer scope of this band’s wiiiide-open vision. They’re adding
much-needed musical and lyrical complexity to the old forms, blending and stretching
both the emotional and sonic terrain to thrillingly new and unfamiliar points beyond.
Hear it for yourself to best effect yet on the band’s new ‘Mystery Drug’ album, another
wickedly surreal blast of psychedelicized country and rock and poetic honkytonk chops.”
– John Payne, L.A. Weekly
“A superb ensemble with a serious pedigree in California's roots-rock scene. They
earn marks before playing a note for a song called ‘I Fell In Love With The Grateful
Dead’ but it’s a key signifier. The spirit owes something to Workingman’s Dead/American
Beauty but even more to the Dead’s 1981 live acoustic ‘Reckoning’. Waller’s rich
baritone and some smart, sharp and decidedly dark lyrics provide the cherry on the
Garcia.” – Uncut
"Their songs are rife with mournful social commentary, environmental tragedy, wily
humour, outsider guile, and political undercurrent. Seldom has there been an album
with such joyous music-making, such corrosive, acid-etched lyrics." – WM Smith, No
The Hawks are noted for their lyrical celebrations and lamentations of earth and
ecosphere, odes to the endless highway, and wry social commentary—not exactly the
trucks and tight jeans of mainstream country. They've a loyal following around the
globe from many U.S. and Europe/UK tours, consistently rave reviews from critics,
and a serious presence in the top 10 of the Freeform American Roots chart (#1 three
times), the Americana Chart, and the Euro Americana chart (top ten several times).
Their live show, whether all acoustic or hard hitting psychedelic honky tonk electric,
lights up the stages from their own high desert to Stagecoach in Coachella, to the
folk clubs of UK and Germany.
Les Clochards are Oxford's musical secret weapon. They sharpened their teeth on
a diet of French chansons and Roy Orbison, on which basis they have developed their
own repertoire. Their distinctive sound is fronted by male and female vocals, accordion
and guitar. Autumn 2013 saw them launch their second album, Any Fool Can Wear their
Heart on their Sleeve, following 2009’s critically acclaimed Sweet Tableaux, both
released on Big Red Sky.
